WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

Choosing the right outfit for your engagement shoot is essential! The key is to wear something comfortable—if you’re uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. Plan ahead and coordinate your outfits to complement each other. If you opt for a smart look, both of you should dress smartly; if you go for a casual style, keep it consistent. Select outfits that reflect your personality, style, and the setting of your shoot. This is a special moment, so wear something that makes you feel your best!

Avoid bold patterns, large logos, or trendy pieces that may look dated over time. You want your photos to remain timeless. Neutral tones tend to photograph beautifully and create a classic, elegant look.

SO…. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR OUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT???

We’ve already established that you should feel amazing in whatever you choose to wear—but if nothing immediately comes to mind, here are some helpful tips to guide you!

1. Consider the Location

Think about where your shoot will take place. If you’re heading to a waterfall, heels might not be the best choice! Wear something practical that allows you to move comfortably (trust me, there will be lots of movement!). If heels are your go-to, bring a pair of sneakers or slip-ons for any adventurous spots we might explore.

2. Stick to Your Style

This isn’t the time to experiment with a completely new look. Wear something that feels like you. If you’re not a dress person, don’t force yourself into one just for a “sophisticated” vibe—there are plenty of ways to achieve that look while staying true to your personal style. Confidence and comfort are key!

3. Opt for Solids Over Busy Prints

Solid colors photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you, rather than distracting patterns. If you love prints, choose something subtle. Want to make a statement? Go for bold shoes or accessories instead!

4. Start with Neutrals & Add Accents

Neutral tones tend to be more flattering and timeless. Start with a neutral base (two or three complementary shades), then add small pops of color through accessories or layers.

5. Choose Flattering Fits

Avoid clothing that clings too tightly to areas you’d rather not highlight. For example, I like to layer blazers or cardigans over fitted tops to create a more flattering shape.  Find what works for you and makes you feel your best.

6. Dress for the Weather

Check the forecast and plan accordingly! If it’s hot and humid, don’t expect your significant other to wear a three piece suit.  Dress for the temperature.

7. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Avoid overly matchy-matchy outfits. Instead, coordinate by mixing and matching neutral tones that complement each other. Most importantly, make sure you both look like you’re going to the same event—if one of you is dressed up and the other is in shorts and a tee shirt, it may feel a bit disconnected in the photos.

8. Still Stuck? Get Inspired!

Pinterest is a great place to find outfit ideas! And if you need a second opinion, feel free to send me pictures—I’d be happy to help. When in doubt, just ask!
