As a family photographer, clients often ask when is the best time to take our family photos? This somewhat loaded question carries certain predetermined guidelines THEIR idea of the of the perfect time.” These “perfect” times coexist with:
PERFECT AGES (“Let’s wait until we don’t have to work around the kids’ naps times/ until the baby isn’t’ getting into everything/ until our daughter stops having tantrums…”)
PERFECT APPEARANCE (“I need to lose my baby weight/ I want to upgrade my wardrobe and get the children coordinating outfits/ I want to grow my hair out”)
PERFECT HOME (“ I want to wait until we get our own home/ wait until we have stylish furniture/ wait until we get new landscaping”)
But see, PERFECTION has no personality.
The problem is thinking perfection makes the best photos. It does not. It does not equal beauty. It does not capture the moment in time in your life.
Here’s the good news.
HONEST. TRUE. MOMENTS. That is where the beauty lies.
It is easy to get entranced with today’s social media obsessed, airbrushed and heavily filtered society. The focus on aesthetics is superficial. Let’s remember what we document about our family’s lives.
ow obviously I am going to make you shine in your element during our photoshoot (no one loves unflattering photos!) BUT, I will prioritize how you FEEL over how you look. YOur emotion and connection with your family will drive your session.
We are going to find beauty in belly laughs, muddy knees, wild wind blown hair, sticky fingers, hand me downs. And real and messy full of life homes.
Let’s have a comical, beautiful, messy, adventure filled session. Connect with your family, parents, children, siblings and extended family. That is where your beauty will shine with PERFECTION.
Parents rarely see themselves in these moments. Do not underestimate the love and joy that you will have to treasure forever not only in your images, but the memories made creating them together. Don’t miss out on your family’s perfect imperfections. Treasure and embrace your family you have right now as “imperfect” as you think it might be.
